As a portrait and documentary photographer, my journey has been profoundly shaped by my experiences growing up as a gay child in a small town in the south of the Netherlands. For much of my early life, I felt isolated and alone, grappling with my identity in a society that often marginalized those who fell outside the norm. It wasn’t until I moved to Amsterdam at 19 to study at the University of Amsterdam that I discovered the freedom to live authentically. In that vibrant city, I embraced who I truly am, shedding the fears and doubts that had once held me back.
This transformative period ignited a passion within me—a passion for those who, like myself, have faced discrimination and exclusion. My work centers on giving a voice to marginalized communities, ensuring that their stories are told and their experiences recognized. Each photograph I capture is not just an image; it is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a celebration of the beauty and diversity of our world.
My artistry is rooted in authenticity, with portraits that radiate vibrancy and depth, reflecting the individuality of each subject. Through my lens, I aim to expose the raw realities of their lives, sparking empathetic conversations that foster understanding and inspire positive change.
With a keen eye for the intricacies of identity and a commitment to truth-telling, I strive to reshape narratives around social issues that matter. My goal is to challenge preconceived notions, disrupt complacency, and ignite a spirit of unity and progress through the power of imagery.
In essence, my work is a lifelong commitment to advocacy for those whose voices often go unheard. It is my mission to use my talent and passion to shine a light on their stories, empowering them and creating a more inclusive world for all.
